![]() ![]() Anona Shumway Leishman 1944-2008 Anona Shumway Leishman, our beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on the morning of November 24, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Anona was born on October 31, 1944 in Snowflake, Arizona, to Kent Clarence Shumway and Norma Thomas Shumway. She earned a degree in Elementary Education at BYU. She taught for many years and blessed the lives of her students. Some would later approach her and express how much she impacted their lives. At BYU, she met her eternal sweetheart, Bob whom she married on June 18, 1966 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. They shared 42 wonderful years together with four children who brought much joy and happiness throughout her life. She cherished time spent with family and planned many wonderful get-togethers to keep her family close. Active in the LDS Church, Anona spent her life in service to others. In addition to her callings, she loved to surprise friends and neighbors with meals and homemade pies. She was a good friend to others. She looked after many whom she checked in on regularly. Anona played the piano and organ beautifully and often accompanied vocal numbers -- always willing to share her talents with others. Anona enjoyed tole painting, quilting, gardening and had many interests through her life. She was good at whatever she tried. She made many friends during the years she spent as a teacher, and most recently while working in her son’s office as a receptionist. She brought joy and friendship to his patients, and enjoyed each day she worked there. She had a way of making those she spoke with feel important, and made many forever friends who will miss her greatly. We thank those who cared for her during her illness at the Utah Cancer Center, and the many others who cheered her on as she fought her battle with cancer. We all have been inspired by her ability to fight hard, even to the end. We are proud of her and will love and miss her each day. Anona is survived by her husband Robert, her four children: Robb (Marci), Michael, Janette (Ryan) Park, and Brian (Amanda). Also, her seven grandchildren: Tyler, Kayden, Mackenzie, Tanner, Garret, Collin and Leah. She is also survived by her brother Jed (Nedra) Shumway and her sister Sheron (Paul) Plumb. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Riverton 9th Ward 13400 So. 1313 W. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Broomhead Funeral Home 12600 So. 2200 W. and Saturday one hour prior at the church. Interment Riverton Cemetery.
